What would happen if the entire human species became vegan?

That's what I'm doing my Science Fair project on.
I know this will never happen, but I needed a science fair topic, and this seemed easy for me. It's a research project, which I think would be the easiest type as well, and I wanted something easy so I could do good on it, since it's worth 20% of our mark.
It's does cause me dig rather deep for information though.
There are a lot of things to consider, such as health, environment, human and animal popluation, land usage, third world countries, etc.
The project is due Monday, I've done a lot of research so far, on the weekend, all I have to do is make the presentation board, and write my 2000 word summary, it actually seems super easy to me! Hopefully it is. :)
Since I haven't eaten meat in about three years, I know where and how to get good information, and I already knew a lot about vegetarianism and veganism before starting the project.
I just kind of wanted to share this.
When I finish everything, and write the summary, etc. I'll post it on here if I can.
What do you guys think would happen if the entire human species became vegan?

  1. If the whole world became vegan....I really don't know what I'd do. Probably move to a different planet. There is research going on about restoring Mars into a green planet. So I'd move there, I guess.

What made you decide to become vegan? I find it fascinating finding out what makes people give up meat. Mostly because it is something I could never do.

  2. Well, for my project, everyone would willingly be going vegan. I'm doing it on the effects of health, environment and the animals, mostly.
And, in Grade 8, I watched a video on why a musician went vegetarian, and he was talking about cruelty to animals, so I decided to look into it more, and after I did, I decided to be vegetarian too. That lasted a week, but then about two months later, I tried again, and stayed vegetarian for 2 months before going vegan. And, then a year later, my boyfriend at the time, friends and parents were trying to make me be vegetarian again, for no reason, or saying I was just going to end up eating meat again anyways, and to give it up (that was my ex saying that) and I gave in and went back to vegetarianism for 6 months, and I've been vegan now for over a year, and I really dont plan on changing.
And, because of what my ex said, and how much I really do hate him, I'll never eat meat again, even if I get really sick, just to prove him wrong. XD

  3. Wait....whats the difference between a vegetarian and a vegan? I thought they were the same thing.

  4. I did at first too, but a vegetarian only stops consuming meat and other products containing parts of an animal (gelatin for example), and a vegan is someone who consumes no animal products such as eggs, milk, honey, meat, etc.

  5. Ohhh, now I know the difference between a vegan and a vegetarian. I tried being a vegetarian once but kinda failed :/

About your question, I'm really not sure what to say, the consumption of animals will definitely decrease, but that's obvious.

  6. If the whole world became vegan... the world economy would have to make a major shift, depending on how fast the change happened. A huge chunk of the economy is based on meat and animal products, so people would have to fill in the gap with something else. Maybe tofu?
I don't think I'll ever be a vegetarian or vegan. I even watched Food, Inc. But I understand why people would. I know the reason, that is.
